La Fedelissima is the official march of Carabinieri. It was written in 1929 by maestro, captain Luigi Cirenei, who was the first director of the Carabinieri's Band. It is generally performed on the occasion of the Carabinieri Force's feast day, the concert in honour of the Virgo Fidelis (the patron saint, 21 November), the military parade on 2 June (Republic Day), and at oath-taking ceremonies. Like all marches (and the national anthem), La Fedelissima is often the concluding piece in the concerts of the Banda Musicale dell'Arma. The march has the typical form I-AA-BB-I-A-CC (with possible reprise A-B-A), however its peculiar characteristic is the disparity of the bars of the trio, which in the repetition counts 31 bars instead of the canonical 32.
Happy XLXXX Republic Day, Italy!
