While announcing the series's return,
FX also shared the third season's release date, September 27, 2020,
just one month before the start of the next presidential election cycle.
The season has been in production since February of this year

Bill Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinsky was in talks for adaptation since American Crime Story's first season,
and was initially slated for season 4.
However, the series creator, Ryan Murphy,
made a judgement that the storyline was too scandalous.
Eventually reintroduced as the third season's theme, the script had to be entirely re-written,
and budget cuts almost halted production.
After all the roadblocks, Impeachment: American Crime Story will premiere in September 2020.
